The Giant Tube Worm
Giant tube worms live miles below the surface of the Pacific Ocean. To Reproduce, females release lipid rich eggs that slowly float upward in the water. Males release sperm bundles that have hundreds of sperm cells. The sperm bundles then swim up to meet the eggs where they are fertilized.
After fertilization, the larval worms swim down near the dydrothermal vents and attach to the cooled lava where they grow to form new tube worm communities.
